Groundbreaking ceremony for the new site in Shanghai offering training and technical facilities

Shanghai, March 11, 2016 - Dürr China is pooling its paint systems, final assembly, exhaust-air purification and energy-efficiency technology activities in Qingpu District, Shanghai. The groundbreaking ceremony on March 11 marked the beginning of the construction of the Dürr China campus – at € 25 million, this is Dürr's biggest investment in China. The campus stands for open communication and short distances within a modern work environment. Here Dürr will offer its customers a large training center and a fully equipped technical center with test systems.

The campus, which is being constructed by Dürr on a total of 20,000 square meters in Qingpu, will house offices, a validation center designed for the pre-commissioning of robots and with a modern spare parts warehouse, as well as a 2,000-square-meter technical center and a 2,600-square meter training center. All in all, Dürr China, which employs more than 2,000 staff, will have over 46,000 square meters of production space and 7,500 square meters of office space available in addition to its other facilities.

Dürr's mechanical engineering activities in China are established on Schenck Shanghai Machinery (for balancing, cleaning, testing, assembly and filling technology) and HOMAG Machinery Shanghai (for woodworking machinery and systems). Almost 1,000 employees will be working in around 43,500 square meters of production space and 11,000 of office space.

"The campus is a signal that we believe in the Chinese market and its growth in the long term. We are investing to further expand our strong position here", explained Reiner Schmid, CEO of Dürr China, during the groundbreaking ceremony.

This project offers customers several benefits: They will no longer have to send their employees to Germany for equipment training. And they can have new materials and processes developed and tested at the new local technical center for paint systems in Qingpu.

The campus with its training and technical centers is due to open in early 2017. Dürr has already implemented the campus concept in other countries such as Germany and United States.

The Dürr Group is one of the world’s leading mechanical and plant engineering companies. Dürr products, systems and services provide the basis for highly efficient production processes in different industries. Business with automotive OEMs and components suppliers generates roughly 60% of its sales revenues. Other sectors which Dürr addresses include mechanical engineering, the chemical and pharmaceutical industry and – following the acquisition of the HOMAG Group in October 2014 – the woodworking industry. Dürr has 92 business locations in 28 countries. With just under 15,000 employees, the Group generated sales of € 3.77 billion in 2015. The Group operates in the market via five divisions:

  • Paint and Final Assembly Systems: paintshops and final assembly systems for the automotive industry
  • Application Technology: robot technologies for the automated application of paint, sealants and adhesives
  • Measuring and Process Systems: balancing and cleaning equipment as well as testing and filling technology
  • Clean Technology Systems: exhaust-air purification systems and energy efficiency technology
  • Woodworking Machinery and Systems: machinery and equipment for the woodworking industry
