Our portfolio for the Pharmaceutical Industry

The pharmaceutical industry is responsible for manufacturing basic pharmaceutical ingredients, special pharmaceuticals, and chemical and botanical medicines.

Active pharmaceutical ingredients (API), such as Venlafaxine, Carbidopa, Diltiazem, Gemfibrozil, Azithromycin, Gabapentin, Simvastatin, Pravastatin are produced using chemical synthesis, fermentation, recombinant DNA and various combinations of these production methods. Depending on the API, the emissions can contain VOC as well as various inorganic substances.  In many cases, process streams can be  treated using Dürr LTB Ecopure® TAR thermal oxidiser - or Ecopure® LPX catayltic oxidiser - technology followed by LTB multi-stage Ecopure® PAS or Ecopure® FGA scrubbing systems. Typically, the oxidiser is equipped with a multi-fuel burner in order to handle additional liquid waste.

Spray dryers are used to mix these API with additional raw materials to produce medicines in a more manageable tablet form.  These pills are then spray-coated together with solvent in a rotary mixer. This process generates further VOC emissions – often with extremely high peaks - which require precise control to maintain concentrations below the lower explosive limits. Here, Dürr LTB Ecopure® RTO systems are the technology of choice, often supplied in corrosion-resistant materials such as Hastelloy, stainless steel or fibre-reinforced plastic (FRP).
